Ch..Ch..Changes

You may have noticed, in the run-up to the New Year, that the number of items in the side-bar of this blog were cut back.

Well more pruning has taken place today, as I've decided to streamline what's listed there to focus more on my main web presence - such as these. This will make it easier for you (& me) to see what & where I am.

"Wonderings of Life Wanderer" will always be my main blog; most definetely will always be my '1st place' to deposit my "Wonderings" ...
BUT... sometimes I feel the urge to enthuse more on what would be considered  niche or geeky so a '2nd place' seems seems sensible for when I want to that. (until now I have decided the best policy was to keep such supersized Geek Blessays to myself, except on rare occasions)
Where that '2nd place' will live hasnt been quite finalised - I am looking at various sites outside of Blogger (where this blog you're reading lives). In fact I have been running a 2nd (stealth) version of this site elsewhere to see how easy a particular blogging site worked - unfortunately it wasnt as good as expected, particularly when attempting to remotely (indirectly) post to it.

So I guess I'm open to (free) suggestions for my '2nd place' site...
...Feel free to voice your suggestions in the usual places...

I do use many 'mini-places' already for 'mini/micro blogging' as well as 'stick there for comment later blogging' & will continue to use them. Mostly I find they inspire me in many & various ways: particularly Tumblr .
Somewhat self-indulgently, I've decided at some near future point to explain why I use some of these (not quite proper blogging) 'mini-places' sites.
Just in case someone else would find them useful & probably to justify my use of them to myself!

So at this point, I better end this rambling (I might be pruning the sidebar but not this posting particularly well - har de har) as I've said earlier - feel free to suggest sites for my 2nd place indulgence.

TiVo to power Virgin's new TV platform - Digital Spy

American DVR giant TiVo is to return to the UK market by powering Virgin Media's new converged TV platform, it was confirmed this morning.
TiVo will develop a converged TV and broadband interactive interface for Virgin's new service, which will seamlessly blend linear and on-demand content. Under the terms of the arrangement, TiVo will become the exclusive provider of all middleware and user interface software for the cable operator.
"TiVo's proven track record of innovation, strength of its patented technology and experience in developing best in class user environments, make it an ideal strategic partner for Virgin Media as we move aggressively to bring our next generation TV service to market," said Virgin Media chief executive Neil Berkett.
"The superiority of our fibre optic network combined with TiVo's capabilities, will allow us to offer consumers the most significantly advanced and compelling TV service available in the UK, and we believe will do to the TV market what Virgin Media has done to the high-speed broadband market."
In September, Virgin confirmed it was replacing its existing TV infrastructure with a new IP-based TV transmission platform based on Cisco's Digital Video Headend technology. TiVo's hardware and software, which Virgin expects to make available during 2010, will run on this system.
TiVo president and chief executive Tom Rogers said: "This deal underscores TiVo's commitment to expanding its global footprint through strategic alliances with leading international media companies to help them deliver the best in-home entertainment experience for consumers.
"We are very excited about this new distribution relationship with the UK's most advanced pay television provider and are particularly proud to have been selected as Virgin Media's core software partner for its next generation DVR-enabled set top boxes and its next generation non-DVR set top boxes.
"Virgin Media is a true leader in the world of entertainment and their enthusiasm for building the next generation of pay television is an excellent opportunity to put all of TiVo's innovation to work in a product distributed by a world class partner. We believe this international deal affords us a significant subscriber growth opportunity."

Teenage Assistance - Toaster!!

Nice Shiny New Toaster!!



My #2 son, some days, eats toast like there is no tomorrow!
But unfortunately he frequently 'claimed' not to like (or know how) to use the cooker's grill... so this dad (maybe foolishly) kept making toast (cause it was easier - Ha!).
It was a (stupid?) battleground with #2 son at times {"he was lazy!" ; "why couldn't he help?" ; but really he was, sometimes, so unsure of himself doing something most of us probably consider 2nd nature}

Old (very old!) toaster bit the bullet, some time ago, & so have soldiered on foolishly making toast etc...
Decided short while back it was perhaps time to get a new toaster. But the 'resurrected geek' in me wanted something a little different (but 'little different' costs money)
So thanks to a Christmas Sale, few days ago, what you see above was bought for half-price!
Might seem strange to be telling this story - but - instantly my son has started using it! With ZERO encouragement! As a parent its the little things that bring the smiles & 'warm heart' feelings.

And so my dad-side & my geek-side are happy.

You can search for nearest "St Arbucks" (sorry Thomas its your phrase, I know!) using the I-Real's wireless connection & THEN.. tell other I-Real users your going to be there!! (you can choose not to, but hey only geeks will get these at first so why not gather together & expound on the virtues of your I-Real!)

so... Ideally I want: Internet access (a-la mobile tech) with Flock Browser, Twitter Apps, GPS & Sat-Nav (off-road optional) ... and much more that others will think of!!!
