Hogmanay 2009

The blog below is from last Hogmanay - But has (somewhat bewilderlingly) been one of my most popular posts, having been viewed by someone every week of 2009.

Only one other has been more popular, which I shall post (in edited form) tomorrow.

The sentiments of this post below still ring true - so Why Not?!

So, Blessings & Prayers for 2010 - from me to you. xxx

------

Its Hogmanay!!!

So Happy Ne'erday when it comes...

(Don't really see the point to New Year Celebrations - never really been all that comfortable with the logic of it even as a very young child - always seems maudlin & a feeble excuse to get drunk)

But still - I'll not spoil what is for some is a fab excuse for a big party / small family gathering or whatever life brings you...

Glasgow Hogmanay 2007/8 (Runrig just after 'the bells')

Edinburgh Hogmanay 2007/8 (Fireworks across city)

Some Fab Hogmanay TV from my Childhood...
(for Salvationists - the last 30/40seconds are very funny)

Though, finally I offer up, right now, prayers for those who want or need Gods Comfort & Grace, in whatever situation or 'celebration' you find yourself the Holy Spirit & God's blanket of love will surround you & warm you. You are never alone - God's there walking beside you & me

The Cove | Take Action - Take Part!

The Cove exposes the slaughter of more than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises in Taiji, Japan every year, and how their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan and other parts of Asia, often labeled as whale meat. The majority of the world is not aware this is happening as the Taiji cove is blocked off from the public. The focus of the Social Action Campaign for The Cove is to create worldwide awareness of this annual practice as well as the dangers of eating seafood contaminated with mercury and to pressure those in power to put an end to the slaughter.
Slaughtered for Their Meat (despite the levels of mercury! & being packaged as "Whale Meat") & Captivity Capture to places like Seaworld & Dolphinariums (which is how they make their Money!!)

This Has To STOP NOW!!

I AM ONE MAGAZINE | CALL TO ACTION: SAVE BORDERS PREVENT BOREDOM -- A CRUCIAL PART OF BUCHANAN STREET

This is not advertorial. This is a blatant CALL TO ACTION on behalf of Border's Books, Buchanan Street, Glasgow. I was saddened by the news of administration, I was sickened to walk by and see bargain-basement 'CLOSING DOWN' signs just now.

If Border's Buchanan Street is allowed to close, Glasgow loses, in a big way. If the government can bail out the banks, they need to step in here.

Border's

Glasgow loses, here's why:

1. This store is not only a retail space, it is a prime meeting location. 1000's of people daily come through its' doors, rendezvous, buy a book or a magazine, then continue on to lunch/dinner. Every restaurateur within a 30 minute walk should take note!

2. It has been challenging the status quo. In this dire age of complacency in retailing, Border's Buchanan Street has a passionate staff. The store is open until 10pm most days, challenging the home-by-six mentality (especially in an era where retailers complain of low sales = they're never open when working people need them).

3. Because of its innovative programmes, hours and location, the presence is a source of stability and nighttime safety in the area. If allowed to close, or turn into another 9-5 dress shop, Buchanan Street will become a dangerous ghost town for drunken brawlers every night.

 4. Border's Buchanan street has the one and ONLY international peridoicals, news and books sections in the entirety of lowland Scotland. NO other retailers offers such a wide selection.

5. Border's Buchanan Street is one of the few retail chains that aspire to act independently, and support the local community. Our annual writers' conference is one example.  They have a forum for all sorts of events, and have become prominent in hosting things that have no other home.

Write your MSP's, and business friends. The private sector needs to step up here. Rumour has it that the Glasgow store has been consistently profitable.

Change is ok, but if this institution turns into another useless discount clothing store or dress boutique, along with the ridiculous withdrawal of the airport rail link, Glasgow will have taken a giant step back from being a hub in Scotland to being just another run of the mill bourgeois town for weekend shoppers.

 Do something.

TiVo to power Virgin's new TV platform - Digital Spy

TiVo to power Virgin's new TV platform

American DVR giant TiVo is to return to the UK market by powering Virgin Media's new converged TV platform, it was confirmed this morning.
TiVo will develop a converged TV and broadband interactive interface for Virgin's new service, which will seamlessly blend linear and on-demand content. Under the terms of the arrangement, TiVo will become the exclusive provider of all middleware and user interface software for the cable operator.
"TiVo's proven track record of innovation, strength of its patented technology and experience in developing best in class user environments, make it an ideal strategic partner for Virgin Media as we move aggressively to bring our next generation TV service to market," said Virgin Media chief executive Neil Berkett.
"The superiority of our fibre optic network combined with TiVo's capabilities, will allow us to offer consumers the most significantly advanced and compelling TV service available in the UK, and we believe will do to the TV market what Virgin Media has done to the high-speed broadband market."
In September, Virgin confirmed it was replacing its existing TV infrastructure with a new IP-based TV transmission platform based on Cisco's Digital Video Headend technology. TiVo's hardware and software, which Virgin expects to make available during 2010, will run on this system.
TiVo president and chief executive Tom Rogers said: "This deal underscores TiVo's commitment to expanding its global footprint through strategic alliances with leading international media companies to help them deliver the best in-home entertainment experience for consumers.
"We are very excited about this new distribution relationship with the UK's most advanced pay television provider and are particularly proud to have been selected as Virgin Media's core software partner for its next generation DVR-enabled set top boxes and its next generation non-DVR set top boxes.
"Virgin Media is a true leader in the world of entertainment and their enthusiasm for building the next generation of pay television is an excellent opportunity to put all of TiVo's innovation to work in a product distributed by a world class partner. We believe this international deal affords us a significant subscriber growth opportunity."
Yay!! Been jealous of my brother's TiVo for years!!
Smart move VirginMedia - Sky Couldn't quite kill off TiVo & now you bring it back fom the Brink!

Amazon's Kindle to launch in UK

Jeff Bezoz with Kindle
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has unveiled the European Kindle
Amazon's Kindle e-book reader is going on sale in more than 100 countries around the world, including the UK.
The reader has been confined to the US since its launch in November 2007; Amazon expects to have sold a million of the devices by the end of the year.
The global version will run on the 3G network, although Amazon has not specified the networks that will provide connectivity for the devices.
The Kindle store will offer over 200,000 English language titles.
Hundreds of publishers are signed up including Penguin, Faber and Faber, and HarperCollins.
It will also carry more than 85 US and international newspapers and magazines.
"We have millions of customers in countries all over the world who read English-language books. Kindle enables these customers to think of a book and download it in less than 60 seconds," said Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
Penguin chief executive John Makinson hopes it will kickstart digital book sales in Europe.
"The publishing industry is experiencing explosive growth in digital book sales in the US," he said.

KINDLE IN EUROPE
Amazon Kindle
0.36 inches thick with 6in e-ink display
2GB of internal memory
QWERTY keyboard to add notes to text
Battery life "weeks on a single charge"
USB synching for people out of coverage area
The look and feel of the device will be the same as the US version with the exception of network access.
Following difficulties making the Kindle's Whispernet wireless download system work in the Europe, Amazon has decided to make downloads available via the 3G network.
This means that people wishing to download a book outside of a 3G coverage area will have to transfer content over USB.
In May of this year, Amazon unveiled a new version of its e-reader aimed at reading magazines, newspapers and documents. The Kindle DX is currently available only in the US.
The European version of the Kindle will begin shipping on October 19 with a $279 (£175) price tag.

Doctor Who - Introducing the Doctor Who logo 2010

Not sure like it....
But hey, I'll give it a chance....

Doctor Who - New Logo Coming Soon!

“

Doctor Who has engaged and amazed a global audience for over forty years, constantly raising the bar and regenerating to deliver new and compelling adventures. It’s all change again in 2010 with Matt Smith playing the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan onboard as companion Amy Pond and a brilliant, brand new logo!

On one level, the logo is the iconic image that represents Doctor Who. But it’s much more than that - it becomes an icon that is recognised from Cardiff to California, an emblem of excitement, humour, scary monsters, brave companions and the Doctor! And so the new logo must be stylish, fresh, distinctive and bold. Must be. And will be. See for yourself when we reveal it exclusively, on this site at 8am (BST) on Tuesday, 6th October!

New K9 trailer

Saw this mentioned online many months ago...

Made In Australia - only distantly connected to Doctor Who - insofar that same voice (actor from 1970's) & character name (K9)!

Looks good (for what it is - kids tv fluff) but slightly disappointing also (for what its not - connected to the Whoverse properly for a start)

We shall see how it goes - Thus far - it ain't no Doctor Who OR Sarah-Jane Adventures!

On Disney XD in UK & Network Ten in OZ sometime..

YouTube - Proms in the Park - Glasgow Fireworks

Have probably posted this everywhere I exist on "Intertubes", so apologies if you've seen it already ...

Otherwise, Here it is on my blog!! :0)

Was a most excellent night, (mostly)... (it was Glasgow on a Saturday Night remember!) Loved spending time with brothers & mum.
But especially with my, not so little, daughter, without any of her brothers, disturbing her "stand up act" (she has fab sense of humour & had us laughing at her comments & observations :-) )

Thought 2009/11: May God Bless You With Discomfort

This prayer is, apparently from a Franciscan Benediction:

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain in to joy.

And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done.

Saw it online (as most things I do) at an excellent website, I've just recently saved to my Google Reader.

It has made be think - but how do you become empowered or even empower others , to act on these words?

For me, for now, I got to pray this one out for a while...

Not just for 'you' but for 'me' too...

"May God bless you & I with discomfort... May God bless all of us with discomfort..."

UK NHS - Breeding Ground for Terror!!

16/08/2009

UK NHS (National Health Service) - Breeding Ground for Terror!!

What the Hell!? Fox News-TV for Morons?

Some of the “terrorists” shown were found innocent & some are even British born! Large number of foreign nationals in NHS because training in & qualifying from British Hospitals as Doctor or Nurse carries a great deal of prestige & weight throughout world! That includes US & other “friendly countries” You want to offend Allies, ALL Muslims, & create NEW enemies? Then keep creating vitriol & fuel to the fire like this propaganda-this makes USA look stupid!

ADDED: This is how you “debate” Healthcare Reform in USA?

By creating news & passing it off as truth?

By shouting at each other?

By attacking another country’s health service?

You’re not looking very smart OR intelligent in the rest of the world’s eyes America!

An online friend blogs on this & explains it so much better :

Not In My Name

"Nick Griffin and Andrew Brons take their seats in the European Parliament on Tuesday. But despite their election there was no groundswell of support. They won because turnout for the traditional political Party's collapsed - both Griffin's and Brons' vote actually dropped from the number they recieved in the 2004 European Elections.

The BNP do not represent Britain in the European Parliament.

Tumblr - Brooklyn Fare "Starbucks cup sleeves"

Saw this on Tumblr.com (http://aldakila.tumblr.com is where mine lives)
Very Funny :-)

Love Starbucks but love the colours & humour of this...

Quote on the company here:

'The work for Brooklyn Fare is a full-on identity: packaging design, custom typeface, copywriting, even interior signage and t-shirts (in all it uses only four colors). The packaging "talks" to the consumer using a witty tone, playing on tired cliches, and we're especially fond of the coffee cup sleeves that poke fun at Starbucks, saying, "It's a medium not a grande" and "It's a small not a tall."

Thought 2009/10: Clear Conscience before God

This 'Scripture Tag' I saw on a website got me thinking..

In particular, thinking about the past year & my relationship with 'my church'. Which as some of you already know is far from good, in part for reasons that aren't for airing publicly (my sensible gene kicked in there).
My relationship with God, like all good relationships is ever changing & growing stronger (in a big part, thanks to my Twitter & 'online' friends)

However, I haven't been in the church building in 8 months & that's after barely missing a Sunday & almost all other church events in the previous 13+ years!

The bible quote above has hit home, more than anything else has in the past year...

My conscience before God is clear in most places & ways - but step inside 'my church' building & suddenly I feel like a fraud - so what changes?

My dilemma is summed up again by whats above - my conscience before God (when in 'corporate worship') is clouded/unsettled... because I am aware that those around me aren't right with God - their conscience isn't clear!
Many, many of those around me are going through the motions.. being polite, civil & 'doing church' - BUT under all that festers past hurts & angers -

But rather than doing the sensible thing (in my opinion) by addressing & acknowledging the, still obvious, undercurrents - it has been generally accepted (silently endorsed?) that its easier to be dishonest with ourselves & by that logic God..

So, it seems that as long as the church 'looks right' .. God will understand & accept our weekly/daily dishonesty?
My opinion is that's so twisted a logic, it falls over before it has even begun!

Ultimately, I don't have an answer to my dilemma... Still listening to God on that one.

But... still my conscience, under those circumstances isn't clear before God..

BTW: I know that 'church' is not the building, but the people joining together in worship. Also that I could go elsewhere but (fortunately/unfortunately?) God says, for the moment, my church is still where its been for the last decade & a half.

So...

...Prayer is all I got left...

Validation

16mins long but worth the watching - keep with it!
Not as description says - it about sooo much more than "free parking!!"

My opinion? it shows how much a few words can carry so much power!!
In this film, its for the good but unfortunately so can a few bad/hurtful words.

So always, choose your words carefully..

Remember, a smile takes less effort than a frown...
& a good word spoken is easier than a bad word :)

End of The Line - What you going to do?

This Widget will help you decide..

Watch the Trailer..
Use the Widget..
Support the Film..

Not too hard really?

UPDATE/EDIT:

The Campaign...
"The End of the Line" is not against fishing. It is not against eating fish. But it is for a responsible attitude towards the oceans.

The film has three messages for consumers, citizens and companies:

Ask before you buy:

only eat sustainable seafood.

Tell politicians:

respect the science, cut the fishing fleet

Join the campaign:

for marine protected areas and responsible fishing

We hope that when people buy fish in a shop or in restaurant, they will ask where it comes from; whether it is from a sustainable source, whether it is an endangered or over-exploited species.

Buy sustainable fish & ask questions!

Thought 2009/8: Where has childhood gone

This news story that @jdblundell twitter'd, got me a little bothered, so I shared my indirect thoughts on Friendfeed. Not sure why it did perturb me entirely, but it did. Probably influenced by this earlier 'rant'.
Decided to share it with my blog friends too..

So...

What follows is exactly what I said there, (unedited & straight from my heart then brain -allegedly) :

"Where has childhood gone?
Sexualizing of society in advertising & beyond; "hands-off parenting"? more like "hands-off" society - no-one wants to take responsibility - its always someone else's job to sort it.. the blame game is just going to lead to a downward spiral!

.. "it wasn't me! or who can I sue? or no-one stopped me!" or anything similar shouldn't stand up to scrutiny.
But who is watching out for others? Who is going to stand up & be, firstly an example of action, & secondly a positive voice? YOU? or what about.. YOU hiding behind 'trendy excuse of the day?'
In the end, if you don't stand up with positive action.. then just sit down & keep your words of condemnation to yourself!! {Actions or being an Example shouts so much louder than all the words in the world!}

- Just my opinion, but wrong as what the 13yr girl was doing is... where was the positive action that would have lead to a possibly different life experience? For her & thousands-upon-thousands like her?"

"V" - 21st Century Twist?

Edit: Embedded Video now added! Thanks Youtube & Headphonaught!

This is a trailer for (in case you hadn't worked it out):

New Interpretation of fab 1980's series "V".. Hope they don't mess it up!!- From the trailer it looks tentively promising..

1st episodes of original series were hard hitting (for primetime TV).. mirroring how easily something like Germany of the 1930's could still (and since has- sadly more than once) happen including genocide & in particular Holocoust.. Hopefully it will do same.. With 21st Century Twist

Coming to U.S. 2009-10 schedule - hopefully U.K. will see it too (quickly PLEASE!)

A KILLER who hacked a man to death appeared as a guest on Songs Of Praise.

Garry Brotherston told viewers he "found God" after being jailed for murdering Billy Barclay.

But Billy's disgusted family claim Brotherston is pure evil.

And they are sickened that BBC bosses allowed him on the show.

Billy's mum Jean, 75, said: "I wish he would die, that is the truth. Despite what he says, he has never said sorry for what he did."

While some have tried to talk up a Church of Scotland ‘split’ over sexuality, the great majority of the Presbyterian denomination’s members are horrified by a hard-line minister’s attempt to equate the campaign for inclusion with Nazism, say those involved in preparing for the Church’s forthcoming General Assembly.

In a sermon which religious leaders and politicians have condemned as “deeply disturbing”, the Rev Ian Watson invoked the failure to stand up to the Nazi annexation of the Rhineland in 1938 as a parallel for the refusal of many in the Church of Scotland to join an anti-gay crusade.

THE REAL YOU HAS TO MEET THE REAL GOD

somalife:

The only way to come to God is by taking off any spiritual mask. The real you has to meet the real God. He is a person.

Your heart could be, and often is, askew. That’s okay. You have to begin with what is real. Jesus didn’t come for the righteous. He came for sinners. All of us qualify. The very things we try to get rid of—our weariness, our distractedness, our messiness—are what get us in the front door! That’s how the gospel works. That’s how prayer works.

In bringing your real self to Jesus, you give him the opportunity to work on the real you, and you will slowly change. The kingdom comes when Jesus becomes king of your life. But is has to be your life. You can’t create a kingdom that doesn’t exist, where you try to be better than you really are. Jesus calls that hypocrisy—putting on a mask to cover the real you.

So instead of being paralyzed by who you are, begin with who you are. That’s how the gospel works. God begins with you.

Thought 2009/7: We Are All Saints

Yes, we are.. All Saints (not the girl group - Silly!)

Your deeds in God's Name & in God's Image - As We Are ALL Made - don't need to be flashy or public. It can be as simple as a smile, a willing ear, or a shoulder to cry on.

If the deeds/actions are public or flashy, in my opinion, they should reflect on Jesus' example & NOT on you.
They should show you're following in Jesus' path not creating one of your own. Yes even food parcels, famine relief, or eradicating a disease!

You deserve the recognition no doubt about that, but only if its done in junior partnership with God... Only with acknowledgment to God in all steps along the way...

Something, we all should attempt to do & try to remember.

Anyhoo, the reason for this short rambling was inspired by this cartoon from ASBO Jesus:

Indeed Saints occupy all life!!

Easter Sunday - Bible

1 Peter 2:21-25 (The Message)

21-25This is the kind of life you've been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived.

He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step.

He never did one thing wrong,
Not once said anything amiss.

They called him every name in the book and he said nothing back.

He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right.

He used his servant body to carry our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way.

His wounds became your healing.

You were lost sheep with no idea who you were or where you were going.

Now you're named and kept for good by the Shepherd of your souls.

Good Friday - Bible

Romans 5:6-8 (The Message)

6-8Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn't, and doesn't, wait for us to get ready.

He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready.

And even if we hadn't been so weak, we wouldn't have known what to do anyway.

We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice.

But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.

Love my Love...

...even when she is face down in snow!!!

But I love her for "just being her" no matter what anyone thinks! She is quite happy to fall flat on her face - obviously!

(Unique isn't a big enough word!)

Those "in the know" (whatever!) say I'm biased - but I haven't met anyone who would disagree with me!

I will no doubt be making Lauren squirm by posting this blog - but sometimes everyone needs a "shout it from the rooftops" moment!

End Result of snow-fall? A Snowman on a hill.. s'pose that's an excuse for falling over (hill not the snowman)

Thought 2009/5: Great Love

Following on from my previous
thought is Corinthians 13 in its entirety allowing verses 6 & 7 to be seen in context There are 3 Translations here as I gleaned something different from each, I hope that you do too.

I feel that the words are not only speaking of our love for God, Christianity & our fellow men (human race in general) ; But also of our love for those individuals we come into contact with in our daily lives...

Wife, Husband, Daughter, Son Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Grandmother, Grandfather, Uncle, Aunt & so on...

Boss, Colleague, Customer, Coffee-Shop Assistant, Lunch Lady, Teacher, Janitor, Minister & I'm sure there are more you could think of...

Anyone who influences & impacts your life; Anyone whose life you impact & influence...

What about... Drunk, urine soaked, sweat oozing, vomit covered, blood caked, pus infected... Wait...No cant you imagine coming across anyone like this & loving them?

Let me help...
Drunk, urine soaked, sweat oozing, vomit covered, blood caked, pus infected...
Wife
Husband
Daughter
Son
Boyfriend
Girlfriend
Teacher
Minister
... They are someone important in someones life! Think About It...

Actions are more powerful than any beautiful eloquent words, so they say, true but... If the words aren't uttered with love they are nothing, if the actions aren't carried out in love they are nothing!

Without Love We Are Empty & Soulless?
Love for those we spend our life with, is no more important than our love for everything in our lives!

Love isn't just for celebrating & showing to those we want to spend our lives with on February 14th..

But is for Every Day of Every Year to Everyone?!

To paraphrase: "Just as a puppy isn't just for Christmas ... Love isn't just for Valentines!"

God asks, wants & demands of us to do everything with & in love following his example of actions & reading his words:

LOVE is...

(New International Version)

1 Corinthians 13

Love
1If I speak in the tonguesa]">[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,b]">[b] but have not love, I gain nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

(The Message)

1 Corinthians 13

The Way of Love
1 If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don't love, I'm nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. 2If I speak God's Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, "Jump," and it jumps, but I don't love, I'm nothing. 3-7If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don't love, I've gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn't want what it doesn't have.
Love doesn't strut,
Doesn't have a swelled head,
Doesn't force itself on others,
Isn't always "me first,"
Doesn't fly off the handle,
Doesn't keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn't revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

8-10Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.

11When I was an infant at my mother's breast, I gurgled and cooed like any infant. When I grew up, I left those infant ways for good.

12We don't yet see things clearly. We're squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won't be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We'll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!

13But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.

(New Living Translation)

1 Corinthians 13

Love Is the Greatest
1 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it;a]">[a] but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

8 Prophecy and speaking in unknown languagesb]">[b] and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! 9 Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! 10 But when full understanding comes, these partial things will become useless.

11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 12 Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.c]">[c] All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

...GOD is LOVE
