This "photoblog" is a collection of photographs where we document the specialness in the ordinary... if that makes any sense whatsoever?"

EDIT:
Comment on Flickr about another of this series of photos:
"Aldkila,is that not sunset ?
The sun does not rise over the Airport and that is the direction of your shot if I am not mistaken."
It shouldn't irk me but why question the picture (why would I lie?) If it was a sunset I would say so.... The Sun was rising - this is the sunlight crossing the sky from the east with me facing south!
Its STILL sunrise even if I'm NOT facing east!!

Lang May Yer Lum Reek
"Lang May Yer Lum Reek"
An Explanation (of sorts) :

Here's the above before being "Wordle'd"
Just an insight into Burns' Words, Hogmanay & Scotland :May the best ye hae ivver seen be the warst ye'll ivver see.
May the moose ne'er lea' yer girnal wi a tear-drap in its ee.
May ye aye keep hail an hertie till ye'r auld eneuch tae dee.
May ye aye juist be sae happie as A wuss ye aye tae be.The above, in translation, reads:
May the best you have ever seen be the worst you will ever see.
May the mouse never leave your grain store with a tear drop in its eye.
May you always stay hale and hearty until you are old enough to die.
May you still be as happy as I always wish you to be.Here's to all those that I love
Here's to all those that love me.
And here's to all those that love those that I love,
And all those that love those that love me.
(You have to think about that one!)I drink to the health of another,
And the other I drink to is he -
In the hope that he drinks to another,
And the other he drinks to is me!Here's to them that like us -
Them that think us swell -
And here's tae them that hate us -
Let's pray for them as well! Here's to the heath, the hill and the heather,
The bonnet, the plaid, the kilt and the feather! Here's to the heroes that Scotland can boast,
May their names never dee -
That's the Heilan' Man's Toast!Here's tae us -
Wha's like us -
Damn few -
And they're a' deid -
Mairs the pity!May the hill rise behind you,
And may the mountain be always over the crest;
And may the God that you believe in
Hold you in the palm of his hand.Or alternatively:
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
The sun shine warm upon your face,
The rain fall soft upon your fields.Lang may yer lum reek! (Long may your chimney smoke!)
Wi' ither folks coal! (With other people's coal!)
(The second line is said to have originated in Edinburgh!)May we be happy - and our enemies know it!
A guid New Year and mony may ye see.
May ye ne'er want a frien' or a dram to gie him.
When we're gaun up the hill of fortune, may we ne'er meet a frien' comin' doun!

2009 - Homecoming Scotland
Everybody's Welcome!!!
Happy Ne'erday
So Happy Ne'erday when it comes...
(Don't really see the point to New Year Celebrations - never really been all that comfortable with the logic of it even as a very young child - always seems maudlin & a feeble excuse to get drunk)
But still - I'll not spoil what is for some is a fab excuse for a big party / small family gathering or whatever life brings you...

(for Salvationists - the last 30/40seconds are very funny)
Though, finally I offer up, right now, prayers for those who want or need Gods Comfort & Grace, in whatever situation or 'celebration' you find yourself the Holy Spirit & God's blanket of love will surround you & warm you. You are never alone - God's there walking beside you & me

Reflective Thought
In doing that, I came across my scribblings & thoughts from around the time I became a Senior Soldier (full member) in The Salvation Army...
I felt it would be interesting in this time around Christmas & New Year, when Christians & Non-Christians alike reflect on their lives (& the world around them), to add my little quote to the mix....
It always, whenever I read it, makes me pause for a moment....
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. This quote has been attributed to Nelson Mandela, indeed for a long time I thought he had used it in his Inaugural Presidential Speech, but the source of this excellent thought lies elsewhere.
Either Way, It makes me think... for little while I try a little harder....

Teenage Assistance - Toaster!!

My #2 son, some days, eats toast like there is no tomorrow!
But unfortunately he frequently 'claimed' not to like (or know how) to use the cooker's grill... so this dad (maybe foolishly) kept making toast (cause it was easier - Ha!).
It was a (stupid?) battleground with #2 son at times {"he was lazy!" ; "why couldn't he help?" ; but really he was, sometimes, so unsure of himself doing something most of us probably consider 2nd nature}
Old (very old!) toaster bit the bullet, some time ago, & so have soldiered on foolishly making toast etc...
Decided short while back it was perhaps time to get a new toaster. But the 'resurrected geek' in me wanted something a little different (but 'little different' costs money)
So thanks to a Christmas Sale, few days ago, what you see above was bought for half-price!
Might seem strange to be telling this story - but - instantly my son has started using it! With ZERO encouragement! As a parent its the little things that bring the smiles & 'warm heart' feelings.
And so my dad-side & my geek-side are happy.
Shiny New Toaster!
(just 1 observation - it's enormous! Will have to rearrange kitchen around toaster to fit it in properly!)

I-Real ( not an Apple Product! )
Would love one of these...
Video From Geneva Car Show
They reckon it could be on sale in UK in bout 2010 for £2500 approx...
I can dream can't I?
It just seems just like a 21st Century answer to the moped/motorcycle {hey My Dad had one!} ...and no its NOT a Sinclair C5! or made by a stairlift/wheelchair company! Its made by Toyota
Cool Wall Moment:
You can search for nearest "St Arbucks" (sorry Thomas its your phrase, I know!) using the I-Real's wireless connection & THEN.. tell other I-Real users your going to be there!! (you can choose not to, but hey only geeks will get these at first so why not gather together & expound on the virtues of your I-Real!)
so... Ideally I want: Internet access (a-la mobile tech) with Flock Browser, Twitter Apps, GPS & Sat-Nav (off-road optional) ... and much more that others will think of!!!
Even Better? no bloomin Apple logo! (Just cause it got an "I" don't mean it a poisoned Apple!)
Like I said... I can dream Can't I? ...

From: TreeHugger (Cool Name!)
"You might not guess just by looking, but, in the image above, there are two apartments, two sets of dining room furniture, six stools and a bed. Through a variety of gyrations, these objects unfold, change, and otherwise transform, creating functional furniture from previously unrecognizable, compacted boxes, cubes and other geometrical shapes -- like puzzles you get to sit on."

Quick Halloween Thought
....its a complicated one..
I remember looong discussion with my Officers (Salvation Army ministers) few years ago (they were English & very anti-Halloween {as per American traditions that have filtered over here}-reason why i saying that will become obvious)
I explained to them:
In Scotland "Guising" has long been a tradition dating back over 200yrs & comes with very different traditions than modern Halloween (which has it origins more in spirits & dark tales) Also 'Guisers' could also be found out & about on New Years Eve (Hogmany in Scotland) so it almost totally not about Hallow's Eve at all!
http://www.rampantscotland
http://1st-halloweencraft.blogspot.com/2008/06/halloween-and-halloween-craft-guising.html

"Guising" was about children having fun & spending time with family & close friends (your neighbours mostly) I remember it being just that as a child...
I think if churches & christian families emphasise the fun & family side (Guising?) and don't show it as anything else (Halloween?) then children shouldn't need to feel their faith is excluding them from having fun!?
Not sure ministers totally agreed (but saw that many Scottish people saw it as something different from "Halloween" - All Hallow's Eve...)
WE had a "Light Party" instead that year - not sure that sent any obvious message to kids (except perhaps, as 1 of mine said at time, {they were early primary age} "if you're a Christian & go to church, Halloween is evil & we can't have fun!)"
Nuff said perhaps?

Blessay - Messy Word or Geeky Evolution?
Came across this word online (when I started looking at Stephen Fry's Website) .. "Blessay" ... I'm sure many of you will have heard or read this word long, long ago? I however hadn't & just thought it was way cool!
It allows for something that only the English Language (of whatever flavour you digest-Scottish, Queens English, American et al..) can provide; evolution of 'New Words' in a way no other language can. Argue all you like but its true & you wont change my mind - cause it’s true (and I'm right!)
But also from a 'Geeky Blogger' point of view it makes an excuse for those bloggers who desire to be more than just a short, sharp, succinct message provider/regurgitater (Ooh is that me?).
Blessay's allow for what then?
How about, an excuse to live in the misbegotten belief that all you say is important (you're the ultimate online journalist)... rambling ever on & on, expounding all that is right with the world can only be created by whatever new theory/hypothesis your spleen just vented...
Probably, for some it does and is.. So, fair enough, for them.
However... it also allows for a 'heads up' near the top of a blog (at least that's what you the reader, at that point, thinks it is) A warning that '..what we are about to receive..' is a bigger portion than normal. Now, I believe, that will only work if the portion (if you will) has been marinated in the manner which all 'Blessay Writers' apparently should...
Be well prepared i.e. written away from the blog-posting page in your browser! (though not necessarily well written) Also in that preparation should be, most likely a modicum of checked facts (your Auntie Jean, Bryan down the pub or www.all-lies.com probably isn't enough) But most fundamentally important, it seems, is that it must be 'thoughtfully composed'
What does that mean? ... mmm ... I guess it means that you must take the Blessay's subject matter seriously (have some emotional attachment / take ownership of your words; that seems to be 1 plan) Though taking it seriously doesn't mean that you can't be witty, insightful & such.
Does that make these big portion blogs only for the intelligent (I use that term loosely), QI watching (knows all the answers), Radio 4 listening, Guardian reading, upper classes? What? With their private education, vowel stressed voice & ruling class mentality, only they can write the world's Blessays - I think not... Just because they know (and understand) the dictionary definition of 'irony' better than the allegedly simple 'offside rule' (YUK) doesn’t make them the sole proprietor of Blessay town! Oh No! Nay! I beg to differ!
As long as your 'Supersized' blog is on a subject you’re enthused, excited, enticed, and eager to plant in the garden of the InterWeb - then go for it!
But be prepared more than most to: defend you facts with confidence; eat your words with humility; and everything that comes with a reasonably well researched (another loosely applied term), honestly-passionately composed Brain-burp (it just had to come out of you!)
Perhaps more importantly, all 'Blessays' should be something that has enlightened you more in the course of its construction. That Blessay has also hopefully by internet osmosis enlightened others in whatever way it should. (No matter YOUR intention)
I should end this (probable) rambling before it turns into a Blessay of my own making!?
I'm not clear on where exactly the trigger point is, that makes it one?
"Till Next Time, Watch The Skies" or something...
FYI (all links - well...most links...in this blog are not endorsed by me or reasonably & logically connected to anything useful)

Jesus Liberation Template
This 2nd video is a short interview Rob Lacey gave after The Street Bible (now The Word on The Street) was published. It gives just a small insight to his motivation & life story (including his battle with cancer, which he eventually lost in 2006).
As someone has said (probably many times) 'your story & my story are important' on helping everyone on their christian journey.
Its certainly part of the 'Jesus Revolution Template' of living & sharing your faith.
Which, I believe, Rob Lacey did exactly as God had intended....
Thought for: October 22nd 2008
I will hazard at no attempted (personal) opinion, or interpretation to the meaning or relevance - to paraphrase a film quote: "Unfortunately, no one can be told what the meaning is. You have to see it for yourself."
So... without further ado here it is for today: -
"Remember, people will judge you by your actions, not your intentions. You may have a heart of gold - but so does a hard-boiled egg."
Until Next Time....

Essential Word on The Street

Listening to Rob Lacey's Essential Word on the Street audio book
(Used to be Street Bible - got hard copy of that - but hearing the passion & interpretation of certain Biblical events by Rob Lacey is almost mind blowing!?)
(downloaded from iTunes -I don't have an iPod- why would I? Its just good way of downloading podcasts & other audio stuff)

Think I've been bitten by audio book bug!?

New Blog Template
Not sure I like it? ...
There are too few templates to choose from & don't like most of them.
But want to persevere little longer..
[though am considering changing blog completely over over to my (still under sloooow construction) 'viviti' pages or trying 'wordpress']
.. not too sure why more flexibility & aesthetics are important but they are?
Original plan (plans-Ha!) was more Christian Blog here (on Blogger/Blogspot) & more General Life Blog/Site elsewhere (on viviti) - Though you can't (well I cant!) completely separate the two!
Time will tell... Feel free to give your thoughts of any kind
(you know where & how to find me ... No? Look to the side of blog - there's a fair few to choose from!)
"Salute"

BBC News
From BBC News Site:
"When Tommie Smith and John Carlos gave a gloved Black Power salute on the Olympic podium in October 1968 it sent a shockwave through sport. But what happened to the other man on the platform?"
I Think -
What happened is probably less about the "Olympic Ideals" & more about the "Olympic Corporate Image" (yes even in 1968!) - what initially drew me to read the news story was the third man, Peter Norman was 'a Salvo' (as they call members of the Salvation Army in Australia) ; But also because it seemed to me that this was a perfect example of 'The victor writes the history'.
In this case Australian Government (of even today) & International Olympic Committee (of the past & possibly still today)..
But please read it for yourself - draw your own conclusions....
{I'll need to watch out for "Salute" on TV or somewhere.}
The film has an official blog here

Gmail 'Mail Goggles' stymie drunk e-mailing
"Here's the scenario: It's Friday night, and what began as an innocent happy-hour margarita morphed into a few pitchers. After all, those tacos were salty.
Bidding friends adieu, you jump in a cab, head home and decide a quick e-mail check is in order. And there it is: a message from your ex. Or your boss. Or that friend you're secretly mad at.
If you're the kind of person who types tipsy and regrets it in the morning, Google's "Mail Goggles," a new test-phase feature in the free Gmail service, might save you some angst."
Personally I think people should just know better!!

Hack the Debate // Current TV & Twitter

A Great Idea Hack The Debate (they should try it over here!!??)
From Current.com:
"Current & Twitter have teamed up for the very first time to integrate real-time Twitter messages (aka "tweets") over major portions of a live television broadcast.
Hack the Debate by adding your Twitter posts to our live broadcast of the 2008 Presidential Debates.
We will broadcast as many of your debate tweets as possible right over the candidates, in real time, on our live broadcast."
Current have also teamed up with 12seconds.tv {see previous post}
12seconds.tv Challenge
HackTheDebate:12seconds - If the next President could do only one thing, what would you want it to be? on 12seconds.tv
Every Day 12seconds.tv sets a challenge for its users (usually a question, record your video in certain style or location & similar) anyway this was my contribution for today...
FYI : My hair was still damp from rain & yes that right, I am NOT American.
ADDITIONAL {from 12seconds.tv}:
"Hack the debate with Current and 12seconds.tv!
Current is the incredible news network where the users dictate the news programming on both the website and the television station that reaches 51 million households worldwide. They've been doing something very innovative called, "hack the debate," where live tweets appear as the Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates debate. If you haven't watched the debate hack-style, we highly suggest it.
Today, Current is sponsoring our Challenge Question:
If the next President could do only one thing, what would you want it to be?
In addition to responses appearing on 12seconds, Current is going to feature responses on their site at Hack the Debate. We're super excited to be working with Current so check it out!"

Not using Flock? But using Firefox?
Then is this the add-on for you?
'Snowl' "conversations redelivered" -retrieve :
- email
- RSS
- Instant Messaging
- Twitter
- social networking site Alerts!
From Firefox Addons Page:
" Could the web browser help you follow and participate in online discussions?
Snowl is an experiment to answer that question. It's a prototype Firefox extension that integrates messaging into the browser.
The initial prototype supports two sources of messages: RSS/Atom feeds and Twitter.
And it exposes two interfaces for reading them: a traditional three-pane "list" view, targeted to active reading of important
messages; and a "river of news" view, based on the concept popularized by Dave Winer, designed for casual browsing. "
Firefox:3.0 – 3.1a2pre
{Flock 2.0 = All the Benefits & Security of Firefox 3.0 with all the Social Networking Tweeks & Simplicity of Flock!}

I'm certain as Snowl is updated & grows beyond prototype, it will become more beneficial for Firefox Users not wanting to 'Flock' to another browser?!

Oh So Me Too!! 1.5
Oh I should know better -
Few days later I'm reading 'The Street Bible" (now known as The Word on the Street)
Decided to look up Amos 5:21-25 & half way through reading there is this, well... Slap in the face, a thunderclap moment if you will. Best part is I wasn't alone & now my 13yr old daughter is wondering why I'm doubled-up with laughter, (feeling like) practically rolling about the floor.
Not sure why I was 'cept to say that this translation of the Bible is even more appropriate for how I feel just now!
The words & phrasing just so resonated with me that I had to:
Firstly, thank God for saying it in the 1st place & pointing me to it now.
Secondly send it out the to the 'universal ether' known as the Internet.
I feel it will possibly resonate & connect more with us 'Army Types' but any 'church going christian' should understand what God is, to me, so clearly saying....
" God Says, 'Can't stand your religion - it turns my stomach. I detest your meetings.I'm not setting out to offend or irritate - it's just how I feel; and God, I feel is trying to point the way forward.
Yeah, fine, you bring me your offerings by the book, but I'll throw them back in your smug faces.
You bring me your peace offerings, but they mean nothing; so I'll ignore them.
Oh, and your songs: just shut up: they're doing my head in! If I hear one more tambourine I'm going to scream!
What I want to hear is the roaring river of justice sweeping through your towns.
What I want is for the right things you do to wash away the dry, hard, crusted build-up of evil.' "

New Exclusive Doctor Who "Journey's End" Clip
(Still no Doctor - Still Very Sneaky!!)
Micky McMick Mick & Sarah-Jane are there though!
Oh so Me Too!!!
Some of them with justification I'm certain; Others with unfortunate vitriol, but that's understandable too. As I was once told "Let Go-Let God" Doesn't mean you don't have a say in it but... God's in control - If YOU Let HIM!?
For my part I just wanted say Oh so 'Me Too!' God hears us but does His Church?
"I can't stand your religious meetings.God [taken from Amos 5:21-25 (The Message)]
I'm fed up with your conferences and conventions.
I want nothing to do with your religion projects, your pretentious slogans and goals.
I'm sick of your fund-raising schemes, your public relations and image making.
I've had all I can take of your noisy ego-music.
When was the last time you sang to me?
Do you know what I want?
I want justice—oceans of it.
I want fairness—rivers of it.
That's what I want. That's all I want."
